We heard the news that Madison Blue opened for diving this morning and abruptly changed our Ginnie plans in favor of adventure.
We were the first, and so far only, team in the cave since it closed in October or November. The water level is still 8 feet higher than normal, and with more rain in the forecast, Madison may close again next week.
The flow was absolutely brutal. We entered through the main spring and it was all I could do to get to the stop sign in the Horseshoe room against the current. We took the jump to the Godzilla circuit, which was calmer but still had noticeable flow. The cave is less silty than I expected because of the flow. Visibility is 30-40 ft, green and some particulate. Exiting with the flow was a little dicey to avoid getting blown out too quickly. For now, I would only recommend Madison for experienced teams.
