    Default Disabled cave divers

It seems there is in Florida a group who teaches disabled veterians cave diving. Is this true? And how is that group or agency named?
I have heard about disabled trimix divers, but not about disabled cave divers.

I have heard of disabled veterans being taught ow diving but not cave diving. I think that certain disabilities would keep someone from cave diving but others would exclude them.

There is one guy who is paralyzed from the waist down who was certified to cave dive. I don’t know the agency or level. He obviously requires assistance. There was something about it about a year ago on the deep fb page

Really depends on the disabilities. I taught someone from cavern through full cave that was missing a leg below the knee. He was not a disabled veteran, but just an example of a "disabled" cave diver. For a lot of them they are not disabled, just learning to live and play with their new bodies.

But are that divers able to dive 'self sufficient' under water? That is a discussion I had with some people. Of course it depends on how you are 'disabled', but that you need help to get in the water doesn't mean directly you are helpless under water. But rddvet, do you know his fb page?
rblackburn: nice, so if you really want, you can do. Did it take more time? Or did you went to the more low flow caves?

He and the group he dove with went through training in steps. During each step (as with all of my courses) we did high flow & low flow systems. He did not get any special treatment and had to complete each skill correctly. He expected it of himself so he was able to do all skills.

I'm not positive but I believe that's a guy I used to see at Jackson Blue a lot. He would remove his prosthesis and just cram his fin onto what was left of his lower leg.

So no, he didn't stick to low-flow caves.

Edit: I obviously posted this at the same time Richard was posting.

I remember a guy back in the day, Dave I think was his name. He had a adapter on his stump attached to a fin and a "pull" cord. He kept up with no problems. Quite an impressive caver.
