Default How do you feel about the Dive Rite Transplate System?

I am looking to purchase a harness and backplate system that I can use for recreational and cave diving.(single tanks as well as doubles) I like the transplate sytem except for the quick release buckles. SHould I go with the transplate or get something more simple? Thanks for all of your help!

    Default pick one

I'd say pick one or the other... either you want a transpac or you want a harness/backplate system... personally I've got a transpac sidemount setup dedicated, a backplate/wing dedicated to doubles, and a backplate/wing dedicated to singles.... but i'm a gear dork too.

Single tank as well as doubles?Id get a diverite aluminum backplate with continuous web harness, and a single tank converter that bolts onto it.Then a DR classic wing and your all set.Or if youve got more money to spend,go with Halcion.Just my 2 cents worth.

If you are not real anxious,Dive Rite will have a demo day in the future which would allow you to try the gear yourself and make an opinion before committing money.

Looking at my growing gear pile the other day I decided to get down to gear that could be used for more than one use and gear that I had to have to keep cave diving. The transpack stayed, the backplate got sold. Cindy

    Default Transplate

I have two setups with backplate and Dive Rite transplate harness and I like them a lot. When I started doing all my diving with a backplate and wings a couple years ago I tried the continuous webbing harness - it worked OK but was a little troublesome to adjust. In the course of a year I dive in every kind of exposure suit from a 3 mm wetsuit to a DUI CF200 drysuit with heavy undergarments, and the transplate harness adjusts instantly. I have a steel backplate with a single tank wing for diving singles, and an aluminum backplate with wing for diving steel doubles. Both have transplate harnesses and they work great. I guess the quick release buckles are a theoretical weak point, but I haven't had any trouble with them and I like being able to dump my gear quickly to climb back on the bucking dive boats here in the North Atlantic. North Florida cave diving has spoiled us - Wherever else Tracy and I dive now we say in mock indignation: "What?!, No Stairs?"

I have a ss backplate with the transpac straps and I like it for singles. But you can easily make a new lower half of the shoulder straps out of 2" webing thus removing the buckles.... or you canjust use continuous webbing for the same effect...

I really like my transpac but also own a back-plate and harness. Both work very well and as mentioned before you can use an adapter with the back plate for singles. The transpac can go single by using the cam straps that come with it.
I find the transpac more comfortable.

    Hey----Ho----Lets go!!!!!!!!
