    Default Water Temperature

72F seems to be the predominant temperature in most Florida caves, in pretty much all the high, low and no flow varieties. Does anyone know what could cause a low/no flow Florida cave to have a significantly different (colder - low sixties) temperature than this (other than the typical cold river water intrusion after a flood event)?

There are sinks and old caves that are no longer attached to the aquifer and some of them are cold. They only get radiant heating from the sun, the ones I have been in have a pronounced thermocline.

The panhandle caves are usually 68-69 degrees. I have seen low 60's but it is generally during the winter. I would guess Gulf water intrusion and the deeper water in the Gulf hasn't warmed up yet.

I’ve been in a few caves that have pockets of real cold ,but stagnant, water, like in the upper 50s. Anything with any water movement seems to end up at or around the usual temperature though.

HITW has a lot of variation. I?ve seen 63 while diving it. It was quite a good distance from the entrance. I can?t remember exactly where. Maybe on the way to consolation.

For Peacock from data collected from a hydrolab last Friday. Temperature was 71.16 from OG to the Distance tunnel. Just past the distance tunnel it jumped to a boiling 71.4 after picking up a different water source. Between Challenge to Olsen is was 71.33. Between Olsen to P1 it was 71.26.
