Compliments to all for such a great workshop (DeWayne, Forrest....), and to all who missed it, we missed you. I had such a good time, and my brother Jay got a lasting impression. My cave instructor was one of the people helping teach the cavern class, so i got to ride along with her as she taught class and i got to go cave diving for a week on the cheap. Good times.
Everyone spends the first nine months of life in water. The lucky ones make frequent return visits.

It's a sweet deal - I'm totally jealous of it...if I could have had opportunities like that in college - dang. You can start the class as a non-diver. You spend a semester learning to dive, doing all kinds of neat stuff underwater. The class culminates in this field trip and you can take up through intro cave with it. It is really cool, and the cavern divers end up being much better than your average diver with this class, as all the instructors are cave instructors.

you mean it continuing education or its a credit class? thats nuts, how much does it cost? they have cave instructors from the start like pool work?
No, it's a credit class. This 3 week thing at the end is just extra. And yep, the instructors from OW on are cave instructors - they have the same instructors from starting OW to Cavern/Intro. It is an amazing opportunity for somewhat that has a heavy interest in diving.
This field trip is pretty cheap for the students - if we (regular people...) were to pay for what they get.... it would cost a lot more than what the students pay.

I think it's fantastic they are encouraging young people to get into cave diving and doing science combined with cave diving. I can't think of a better way to bring bright young people into our sport. Next year if they show up again let me know ahead of time. I'll pony up the money for another keg for the kids. Cindy Butler
