Default A Great day to dive Lafayette Blue - March 25, 2018

Last Sunday, my buddy Chris and I decided to hit Lafayette. We checked it out the afternoon before, but decided to come back the next day. We wanted to have more time and wanted to bring a saw to help clear some fallen tree limbs (especially going forward to Trap).

It was Chris's first time at Lafayette and I hadn?t been there since late 2016. We went in at Kitty (fully covered with Duckweed) and headed upstream. The vis was quite respectable at a hazy 20-30 feet in most spots along the way. You could see from wall to wall if you angled your light to minimize the particulate backscatter; but as usual, the cave is quite silty basically everywhere. Flow was light, making the swim easy. We turned our dive not too far passed Goodman Sink. We continued back, past Kitty and decided to turn again right after the opening to Sweet. The upstream swim back to Kitty was more work as the flow was significantly more evident - the size and depth of the passage from Kitty downstream is significantly shallower that the rest of the cave we had been in early. Can't wait to go back.

We did our paying it forward good deed, and "cleaned" up the path so you can drive up to the fallen tree near Trap.

Glad you added the photo. I wasn't sure where you put in at. I assumed at first at Lafayette Blue Headspring, but then that would have been a long swim to go where you went.

How was access at Kitty. I know last time I looked at it and Trap last year the stairs were torn up. I've only dove it once from the Headspring and the viz was awful. I'd love to go in at Trap. Unforutnately every time I think lf it, it's hunting season and I'm told to stay away then.

Duh: I just reread it and it clearly says you went in at Kitty. I missed it on Tapatalk

Going downstream from Goodman, watch for buried, hidden Ts.

I did some quick repairs to the stairs about a year ago that at least made them usable again. Hopefully they have held up, I’ll be back out in a few weeks and plan on diving here again.

The concrete pad with a few more good rainstorms will become an open water fixture.

Yeah it was rough, I tried to jam some rocks under it to slow down the erosion but I doubt it did much good. A farm jack and some bags of concrete to jam under there might help
