Jason Richards is pushing some awesome stuff in Vancouver. I know, a bit further north but it is some awesome exploration (some > 300').
Thank you, I'm aware of the fun going on up there.
I'll be in Newport, Oregon for a week and just curious if there's a dive to be had.
It is hard to believe Pat Shaw left anything undone in Vancouver.
I'm not a cave diving 'insider', so there could all be stuff I don't know about, but I did grow up in Oregon; spent half my life there. There are lots of great things to do in the state, but diving isn't one of them. There are those that say there's good diving to be had in the ocean (cold, low viz, high current and surge) and the high mountain lakes (Crater Lake, Clear Lake; very clear and very very cold). When I was looking for cave diving in Oregon (I go out there once a year or so) the only public descriptions I found were for Malheur cave, which sounded short, small, silty, nasty, and not allowed anyway. I was in Malheur cave as a kid (not diving, just walking) -- there's a lake at the back, and there's a sunken boat in it. There are small ocean caves (and at least one big one, Sea Lion Caves), but the shore is rocky with pounding surf; not good for swimming. For open water diving there's the Puget Sound 6 hours to the north, and Monterey 12 hours to the south. I've seen video of the Vancouver cave dives -- looks pretty spectacular, but looks like it take some hiking to get there. Oregon is really pretty country; enjoy it above water. I'd recommend hiking, paddling, fly fishing, biking, etc.

Best OR diving memory: cooking freshly caught lingcod, scallops and Dungeness crab on the Barview Jetty with the sun setting into the Pacific.
No caves though.
