TAG Fall Cave In

Ary, I gave you access to the Tennessee forum. I usually post when the are going up that way. Blowout Blue is very close to Martin spring, so we can do both the same weekend.

I have the contact info for that owner as well as the leaser that we talked to to get access that one day. Wouldn't hurt to call him. I am off the Sunday of TAG and may make my way down if it sounds like folks are gonna be doing something fun. In between a weird schedule at work till November then I'll have my normal 3 days a week schedule which will free up a TON of time for caving/diving. Until then it seems I'll have to stick with these one day trips.

Forrest, thanks for the unlocking TN forum. I don't mind to hike up the road but I'm not fit to survive logistics of doing any diving from the pit side. Now from reading TAG divers stuff and recalling memories of some named spots I realize that we are down here in FL diving in luxurious conditions. At least 24hrs air fills and flat trails here are our big advantage. Josh thanks for the comments too. If I will try diving in TAG it would be probably just one dive for which I would bring my gas from FL. My "dry" suit is over 12 yrs old so how bad would it be diving TAG springs in 5mm wetsuit?

Also, since I'm not staying at TAG what free opportunities to overnight camp are known around. I use to stay at TVA camp at Foster Falls but now my understanding it is a state park and it is too busy to walk in without reservations. Cloudland is also too busy plus they always booked at the time. There are some spots managed by TVA but I'm not familiar with conditions.

There are a lot of free, and also cheap places to camp in TAG. Near Martin Springs, the cheapest place to camp is Adventure Offroad Park (35.089449, -85.746052). It is only $5 a night. Just tell you are a friend of the crazy cave diver in the yellow Jeep.

I have several sets of tanks, so multiple dives isn't a problem. Yes, sump dives require support. They are very hard to do solo.

As for thermal protection, I use a fairly new drysuit, and a Weezle Extreme Plus undergarmet in the springs. I use a 7mm Farmer John for sumps. Too much danger of damaging a drysuit.

Chrissy and I will also be at TAG. I'm looking to dive. We will probably do another survey trip at Boshart (at least one) and wouldn't mind getting into Blowout, but the rain probably will kill it this coming week. Boshart will still be good. If others want to help at Boshart, our party is a max of four, and the trips will by 6-8 hours with a short, pretty, 800 foot swim at both ends. You will have to survey, however, and Chrissy is a mean survey mistress.

I usually camp on the top. Take the first dirt road to the right as you enter the loop around the vendors. and keep going up.
