    Default "Too dangerous to dive"

...Recently heard this from a landowner that had someone come out of the hole on his property a decade or so ago and told him that. I've since resolved the situation BUT

My question is what would make you say that about a cave. Isn't it all just perspective, drive and preference? What's too dangerous for A might just be the only reason B dives. It just kind of erks me that whoever decided to use those words instead of using something like "only someone with proper training and a lot of experience..." almost ruined it for anyone and everyone.

There's also line about 70' feet to left of that grate if you really want to go in. Don't know how that answers my question though.

There are a few that come to mind. There are plenty of divers out there that are comfortable with small tights spaces with questionable viz. When those guys/gals report back that a cave is "too dangerous", I am inclined to listen.

Just from the accounts I have read.. I have no interest in going into the following caves:

-Devil's Den.. (also grated off, IIRC)
-Convict Spring (silty and reported to be collapse prone)
    -Royal

When 40 of those 70 feet periodically disappear in sand that is IMHO a dangerous cave. Also when stuff gets fallen on your knotted line and when you trace it back with eyes closed for stress management it surprisingly ends in a wall. Also when both your regs get freeflowing filled with sand and current picks up a boulder and plugs the exit such cave maybe in a category of dangerous. When sink is covered with racoon and who knows else feces warmed up to 86F this might cause a dangerous diarrhea. When you have 30 minutes of o2 time left on a ledge laying next to a gator that could be dangerous.

Convict doesn't have anything on Royal. Not much to see in Royal, Convict is at least pretty in some areas, and no where near as silty.

There are actually a lot of caves that are to dangerous to dive. Some are in very bad limestone, that are very prone to collapse. Others the current is so high that one mistake will get you blown out sideways, and you will end up trapped.

Have to agree 100%, not all caves are divable. In addition to "prone to collapse", there are some places that are actively collapsing, such as the Crypt at Peacock.

Those are good points I hadn't really considered for the scenario I was in. Thanks for the feed back!

I was in the Crypt once, when my bubbles triggered a slide. Very scary.
