Default State (FL) Buys Gilchrist?s Blue Springs Park For $5.25 M

Wow.. this seems like good news for people local to the area. As a State park pass owner, it will be nice to have access to another of the nice local springs. And maybe be able to kayak up the run without getting yelled at by private owners..

Article even mentions diving.. that makes me wonder if it might eventually be opened up to some diving. Seems the current diving platform right over the headspring would be a problem, but you never know if that will survive the transition to State Park..

It also mentions the property includes 6 springs. Anything in there that we might not already know about?

Blue has SM cave. Supposedly Ginnie upstream headed somewhere near this area. Other springs have no human size entrances.

ARY, 47 acres.... did the current owners allow a thorough look over the surface? I remember reading something (maybe Ned Deloach's book?) that they would dive into the spring to clean out trash from time to time. but that there was no "cave" at the headspring. Was that just to keep out nosey people??

They have put the entire Farrell property up for sale in Tallahassee, I think it is about 700 acres. Meeting House, Greyhound, and several others are on this property.

Well it is of course worth to take another look. I`m always sceptical about "it doesn`t go" and "there is no caves". State is by my experience very slow in opening public parks. It probably will be years before spring re-opens.

Have any of you actually seen this 'boil' up-close & personal ? It is a site to behold.....a karst window of amazing proportions & crystal clear sky blue water to peer thru. It would be a caver's dream to be able to explore this system. Just my opinion & I have seen it.
