Default Steps at Kitty Sink repaired

My buddy and I spent this last week at the Dive Outpost diving systems in the area. We always try hit at least one new system every trip, and Lafayette Blue was on out short list this time. Cathy recommended contacting Bill at Cave Excursions for the best info on the system and access to Kitty Sink.

Well, long story short he was a bit weary of letting us dive it due to the very poor condition of the stairs. We offered to help fix them up, and he graciously took us up on the offer. He cut us some 2x4s to use as new step supports and escorted us over to the site.

He was correct, several steps were completely collapsed and most of the remaining were in poor condition. We repaired the collapsed ones before our dive with the materials we had on hand. However, I am not one to leave a job half done, so we went back the next day and replaced the supports on all of the rest of the steps, plus un-burried the concrete steps at the bottom. Bill has been kind enough to the community to let us use his land, I figured this is the absolute least we could do.

The steps will eventually need to be completely rebuilt one day in the future, but they are MUCH better than they were before the repairs. If the steps were the reason keeping you from diving Kitty, go check it out now!

Conditions were decent, ~30 vis throughout the system. Went up stream 2000' and downstream to Green sink.

Thanks again to Bill for the materials, the knowledge on the system and for letting us dive it!

Thank you for doing the repairs. Dove it only once but a nice silty low viz cave. A gem.

    Thanks for the repairs.
I built those steps and pored that concrete nearly 20 years ago...I am glad that they are still being used and now safely due to your efforts.
Bill, Harold, and I bought that land after the county closed access in the park for the sole purpose of keeping it open to certified cave divers. Now that the park is back open to divers more entrance options are again available, but Trap and Kitty still gives you the chance to start deeper into the system to penetrate further or to have a scenic cruise with the flow to the park entrances.

They are are definitely still being used and I know the I speak for a lot of people when saying its appreciated everything you did to get access to this system. We really enjoyed the 2 dives we did there and will be doing a lot more exploring in coming trips.
