Solid advice, not only from the first speaker, but the Law Enforcement Officer that followed him around the 27:00 minute mark.

I will add, it is important not to confuse the police with the paramedics !!!!

Don't laugh, I have seen it happen !!!!!!

While witness testimony is appreciated (and a necessary evil of investigating what happened when a call for service is received), it never failed to amaze me when I was working the road how many people have incriminated themselves by running their flaps, or ended up WAY more involved than they wanted to be, all because they failed to follow the advice given in the video.

Seen it more than a few times myself....... To quote Ron White, "I had the right to remain silent, but I didn't have the ability"

That is a great video, his book covers the same points with some additional details.
It's amazing how many folks don't understand the best course of action is to not give any statement other than "I want a lawyer".

Whether it's the IRS, ATF, Local police, Secret Service or the DEA, really any officer or agent of the government; never talk to any of them without an attorney.

Unfortunately, asking for a lawyer only convinces a policeman that you are guilty.

Interesting after all this time their still looking into it, I assumed it was a "cold case" by now. When was the last time the authorities contacted you about the case?

It's bad luck to be superstitious.

I had to chuckle when I read the OP. Last week I had a news feed, AOL or Yahoo, that had the story of the incident. I thought maybe they had new information.

If you are just a witness, there's no point in asking for a lawyer.

Then again, the thread that prompted this one makes me think OP is more than just a witness/the underwater version of a passer-by.
