Life as a Diving Scientist, with Dr. Peter Buzzacott of Divers Alert Network
Friday, March 10th, 6:30-8:30pm, MIT E51-145, 2 Amherst Street, Cambridge, MA
Do you know what NASA spacewalks, Chinese medicine and underwater cave exploration have in common?
Join us for insight into the adventurous life of Dr. Peter Buzzacott, Ph.D., decompression scientist and avid cave diver. As Director of Injury Monitoring and Prevention at Divers Alert Network (DAN), Dr. Buzzacott leads research projects with a primary focus upon injury prevention for divers. He has dived caves around the world, and published nearly 50 scientific papers on diving injuries. This presentation will cover decompression research for NASA spacewalks, French Navy divers, the genetics of DCS, and new methods for prevention of DCS. Dr. Buzzacott will also speak about cave diving in the arctic, the Australian desert, and being a "dive bum", traveling around Europe in a van full of wet dive gear. This unique talk will be followed by an open opportunity to discuss diving science, and expedition diving. After the talk, join Dr. Buzzacott for dinner Kendall Square.
