skip the cavern stuff and get a cave class.
FWIW-Philip is familiar with JB and Morrison but, I believe, he asked about cavern diving elsewhere specifically because that is where he will be for other reasons besides diving. Fortunately for me, after I had more than a few cave dives at Ginnie, I finally took the opportunity to see the Ballroom for the first time when Philip showed it to me. And, I'm pretty sure continuing training is high on his list of things to do, when the time is right. Frankly, the thought of solo cavern diving scares the ---- out of me, but all I can do is nag.
yes JB and Morrison are great cavern dives (I have an annual pass to JB because I like it so much) but I will be in Perry FL competing in a professional BBQ competition. Ill come in and set up mid day Thursday and then will head to CE to drop a set of tanks for (madmosche). I know I can go to Royal (not much to see) or Ginnie which would cost me I believe 30 dollars just for me to make 1 maybe 2 dives (and I plan on being at the new years eve social anyway) so was looking for other spots that maybe off the map or not a state park that I could catch a quick dive while I was in the area. Yes sidemount and full cave are in my future. Its just a matter of money and time but I do really enjoy cavern diving and aren't looking to go zero to hero. theres so much to see in these caverns that most people probably miss. I have been cavern cert for over a year have been to some amazing caverns thanks to those that have taken me in I also run a line in every cavern no matter how mundane it may be (ive seen a very well known instructor that responds on here that didn't even run a line in royal or OG) but that's besides the point I also dive with a pony bottle and 2 first and second regs.
SOAP BOX
I find it funny that everyone has an opinion on the internet but no one has ever questioned me at a dive site when they see me by myself and with a single tank or have they offered to make a dive with me...we all choose to do this kind of divng for or own reasons...im not looking to go out and get myself killed...we all solo dive...but its taboo to talk about it...
Not to play scuba police, but I would think the agencies don't allow solo diving with a cavern cert. Not that anybody from the agency is going to follow you around to make sure you don't.
PS, if you looked like a stroke and I saw you going into Ginnie like we see all the time with the OW dumbasses then I would probably signal you to see what the hell you're doing (oe my favorite is blinding the OW dumbasses that obviously have no reason to be going in there until they turn around). Just because you are only on a single tank isn't a reason to stop and talk to you since obviously you can cavern dive in a single tank, and I personally don't care if you choose to take the risk to dive solo at your level.
At the same time think about how appealing you make yourself to dive with as an instabuddy when you "soapbox" us. Personally I don't care, but some people may think that combined with being OK solo diving at your level is a sign of someone to avoid.
If you can have a canoe cypress is great cavern dive. I dove it after I was fully cave and really enjoyed it
You can rent canoes to dive Cypress. It is very pretty.
cypress sounds great...ill certainly look it up when im in that part of the state...solo diving at ginnie is out...ok
