Sean, maybe it's time we stop in again at Gator Hole as I've been thinking it must be "good" five feet or so vis we had there a handful of years ago.
We used to dive this spot around Halloween as our spooky dive.

Try 1-2 ft. The only reason I knew I was swimming into the cave was because of the flow. Lol! No point diving someplace that you can't see. Lol!

Thanks for the input ARY! I saw your comments from 2010 on CAtlas.. it would be pretty cool to hear more about the exploration of either the vortex (Suck Hole) or Gator Spring/Sink.


In your first picture, you can see my back yard, right across the river. I have paddled over to check out the vortex several times but never imagined anyone had tried to dive it. I have not figured out which of my neighbors has Gator Sink on it, but am keeping my ears open. Most folks on this track sort of keep to themselves.

Thanks Tracy. The poor vis and work has kept me out of there for the past few years or so but we used to dive it annually when the rains were low. Five feet of vis more or less seems to be the best it can be, at least in recent years. I wouldn't want to be in there with less than that, although one of my coolest inner-space dive sensations was in Gator Hole one time when I couldn't see the floor, walls or ceiling, just white dots floating by me. I told family it seemed like I was floating through space.

Gene, I've been hoping to get back in Gator Hole for a while now, but I think we'll need an extended drought to get the visibility we had back then.

White dots floating before you might not be a good sign. Lol!

He Adler if you want someone to go to the river caves with you, let me know. This is the kind of diving I would rather do nowdays. Something new off the tourist path. You find some very cool places untouched by many.
