    Default The Pond

    Folks,

I wanted to share with you that this past weekend I had the opportunity to dive Jackson Blue, Hole in the Wall, and Twin Caves. The only thing that I can say is that the systems were "Spectacular" and I thought that I was in Mexico (that is other than Hole in the Wall which reminded me of Lafayette Blue)!

If i would miss Lafayette Blue i would pour strong cold ice coffee with lots of cream into a bowl, put my mask on and blow bubbles for an hour. This would be as much as i could see during my first and only dive there when it just re-opened.

I suspect the local chicken farms have trashed that cave for the rest of our lifetimes

Visibility can approach 30' when conditions are dry...typically the viz runs 15'-20' unless recent rains or floods. I can even show you a real nice blue water tunnel that my buddy and I have dove for over 500' but it is definitely a feeder tunnel that is a looong way from the head spring....

There is a conditions report for Lafayette that says viz is 20-30. Last time I went (October) it was 5-20.

I dove Lafayette Sunday. It was pumping almost as bad as Little River, the vis was maybe 15', and the line was covered in the prettiest green slime you have seen. There are still some loose old lines lying around, and lots of sticks and twigs. It still was fun.

On the plus side, the state has really cleaned up the area, the restrooms have been redone, with showers, and there are outside showers to clean your gear.
