    Default Martz Steps Update

Thanks again to all who contributed to the Martz Steps replacement - your donations are making a difference. Between yesterday and today, the volunteer work team has accomplished the following:
    1. Moved the new wood to Martz.
    2. Removed the old deck at the top of the stairs, the railings on the steps, and some of the steps. All of this has been moved back to the parking lot for disposal.
    4. Installed two 6x6 posts about halfway between the deck and the water. (Previously used 4x4s are being replaced with 6x6s)
    5. Built the framework for the new deck - nine 6x6 posts and various cross pieces.

We appreciate a donation from the NSSCDS which is supplying volunteer lunches for a few days.

Also, thank you to Steve, Marilyn, and Andrew Boyer; RB and Beth Havens, Rick Robinson, Jeff Reeves, Al Clements, Stu Weg, Alan Barefoot, Steve Cushman, Colin Irons, Kasey irons, and Mike Stine for their volunteer hours.

    Safe diving,

    Sandy Robinson

Hi all, do you ever use the steps at Martz? If so, we could use your help. Work on the steps replacement will continue this Saturday and Sunday (10-29 and 10-30) as it will through November. To finish the steps, we could use 4 or 5 more people each day. Even if for half a day, if you have time or an interest, contact Mike Stine at 850-728-0098. Lunch will be provided. In advance, thank you.

    Safe diving,

    Default Martz update and pictures

Ok, if I did this right, here are several pictures from Martz yesterday to show you the latest progress at 5:00PM. Accomplishments include:
    1. The frame for the new deck. It may appear that it is resting on the old deck but it is not. All materials for the new deck are new.
    2. Several posts for the deck and walkway rails have been installed along with several posts for the new stringers.
    3. Two of the three stringers from the deck to the halfway point are installed. The old stringers and posts which are in the picture will be removed. The new stringers also have a stiffner attached for added support. Plus there will be three rather than two.
    4. The frame for the new walkway to the deck along with several posts. Note that the new frame contains 3 joists rather than two.

    Other information
    1. All hardware is stainless.
    2. Prior 4x4 posts are being replace with 4x6 or 6x6 posts.
    3. Posts that make contact with the ground are being wrapped in some type of tar paper.
    4. Previously used 2X6s and 2x8s are being replaced with 2x8s, 2x10s, or 2x12s.

I think this structure will be here when ll of us are pushing daisies.

Special thanks to Steve Boyer, Rick Robinson, RB and Beth Haven, and Mike Stine who have used 4 days in the last two weekends to help. A lot of other people have given 1 or two days - we appreciate all help and can use more. If you have time this Saturday or Sunday, let me know via here, pm, or 229-873-0889. You can also contact Mike Stine at 850-728-0098.

Super progress! Feel free to finish up without me, but I may be able to steal away from a day or a half of diving in a couple of weeks. I'll try to give a heads up, if I can.
I really love diving Martz. Thanks y'all.

Rhino, if you could that would be great. But living in LA, we understand if you do not make it Extra volunteers really help performing odd jobs while the construction guys are thinking, measuring, cutting, adjusting, attaching, etc. With 4 to 6 extra volunteers each day, the construction guys can probably finish in several weeks. Otherwise, it may be delayed.

If your knee can take it and you can do some light lifting and walking, we can use you. If not, we understand. Good luck with your recovery.

Volunteers Needed! We will be working on the stairs at Martz Sink Thursday (11/10) through Sunday (11/13) this coming weekend. We need 3 or more volunteers each day. Volunteers are allowed to camp at Madison Blue Springs SP. Call me at 850-728-0098 if you can help out.

To reiterate what Mike said, we desperately need volunteers to get the steps completed. Much progress has been made but a lot of work still needs to be completed - the mid level platform, the bottom steps , railings, and more. Plus, the state requirements require more time than what may have been done in the past. Mike, Steve, RB, and Rick can only do so much without additional help. If you have some time, please call Mike at 850-728-0098. If you can make it this weekend, BYOB... bring your own battery operated drill.

    In advance, thank you all!

    Safe diving,

    Sandy Robinson
