Actually, I was near the S.R. Blue Hole late last year (oct/nov) and there IS talk of opening the grate to a local caver project, though I have no details nor contacts. There are also a number of other similar features in the area- all on either park or private property. Needless to say I was not in the area long enough to cultivate any connections, but you would need to be local to be involved, I am sure.
And there is a reason that there are "no caves to speak of" in AZ- fantastic stuff...or so I'm told.

There is a hilarious patch that used to go around the western grottos that said something to that effect. Haven't seen one in a while.
As for underwater stuff in AZ- that is news to me- though it would not surprise me, considering the type of caves found in mexico to the south east under the sonoran desert.
