    Hi

Pete Mesley (Lust4Rust) has such a O2 Generator in Truk Lagoon since 3 years or so.

It generates up to 93% or something or it can generate more but will get really inefficient.

I cant remember the exact procentage of every gas but everyone was using it with no issue.

I think Pete will give you some Information about it. He is a nice guy.

I have been involved with PSA installations for diving, worked fine

The membrane units can only deliver (theoretical) 40% with a single low pressure compressor and membrane. This is for diving purposes and is fed to a high pressure compressor to make nitrox. They are more costly to setup compared to a bottled and flow system into a regular compressor. For high volumes of gas using liquid O2 or remote areas they make financial sense. I set them up on live aboard dive boats, they make sense there due to the remote cost of O2, space, & labor to change or fill bottles made them cost effective. Humidity and other factors affect their performance and it can be a struggle, sometimes, to get 32% with certain conditions. For low volumes or areas where liquid O2 is available they either have a long ROI or will never pay for themselves with maintenance costs.

O2 generators I looked at years ago however haven't ever dealt with one.

When I got back to Arkansas I asked a new shop if they banked nitrox and got the response " no, those membrane systems are expensive" , I didn't ask any more because I was perplexed by "membrane systems". May have to go back and talk to them about blending at the compressor....

Also wondered why no one used an oxygen concentrator in blending nitrox but never asked because it seemed that there had to be a good reason or everyone would have already been doing it.... How many liters per minute does it take to blend 32% ??

Why yes that was me in shorts and a t-shirt oops, a drysuit @ the 700' marker

Wouldn't that depend on what the compressor can deliver?

To answer the last question first.... Take your output SCFM and multiple by 28.3 to get flow in liters. Then multiple by .14 to get your input O2 requirement.

I looked on craigslist and found a thriving market of used concentrators. I'm guessing old people who died and the estate didn't need it anymore. A few concerns I had was:

    1) Elevated argon, CO and CO2. Maybe acceptable in shallow water as deco gas. At 4 ATA? No thanks for me.
    2) Most manuals I read said it took up to 15 minutes warm up to get O2 flow. I just want to turn the O2 on.
    3) Most units only output 5lpm. Some 10. And this is usually at 95% purity or even less at higher flow rates. I'd have to have several of these all running feeding the stick. I don't have room for this in my garage.

How much O2 is needed? 32% is 418psi per 3000psi so that's 14%. Take the SCFM of the compressor and multiply by 28.3 to get liters and *.14 to get the O2 lpm requirement. For me thats 14lpm for 32%. Multiple by 1.05 or more if the concentrator isn't outputting 100% purity.
