Default Dive Rite LED Backup Light

I had two of these on my sidemount rig; the ones with the 7 leds that unscrew to turn on. While at Ginnie this past week a friend asked if i knew they had a tendency to not turn on when deeper than 100 ft. I asked another friend at JB on monday about the lights and he mentioed that dive rite had discontinued them due to the failure to turn on at deeper than 100 ft. Was this common knowledge that was published somewhere and i just missed it?? Why not a product recall?? Does anyone else have more info about this...Bill Huth

    Hey Bill.
    I've never heard that.
I used to own one but it flooded on me due to a pinched O-ring. This is the only problem I've heard about. Apparently the O-ring is more suseptable to this kind of pinching due to the unique On/Off switch and it must be kept well greased. Of course that should be done with all O-rings but this one really has to be treated with kid gloves. It even says on the Dive Rite website in highlighted Yellow "Note: The O-ring for this light MUST be lubricated, or the light will flood.
I actually did turn it on past 100 fsw though. It was at 140 fsw at the "Hole in the Wall" off Jupiter. I was using it as a backlight for Macro just to see if LED light gave the pics any unusual effects. No such luck but the light turned on and off. I'll stick with my HID for Macro and I now own Salvos for my backups. [/img]
