They are Gone! It's open Again!

Blue Spring, Orange City, FL is open to diving again. The beloved Manatees have moved out of the run into the St. Johns River. We dove last weekend and while the run is way down to only 2' in some places it is open to the swim area. Most interesting thing was one of the other dive teams found a 20 lb. Nile Perch on the bottom at 115 feet laying on its side. He picked it up and put it under his arm until he got it to about 30 feet when it woke up and swam around crazy until it got up to the top of the spring and down the run. We think it passed out near the bottom from a lack of 02 in the water. It was nice to be back.

I haven't dived there in several years and would like to take my son-in-law diving there. I'm Full Cave and he's Cavern. What are their current policies as far as diving there and taking lights?

Groups that are all cavern certified or better are allowed to carry lights. All transgressors are beat to death with a mummified manatee.

Roger, thanks for the heads up. Considering as I only live ~15 minutes from there, I need to set up a couple of dives there.

It'll probably be in April before we can do a dive there, so the manatees shouldn't be a problem by then. I want to see my son-in-law's reaction when he swims over Cork Rock.
