I'm interested in getting a compressor in my garage in Austin, TX. Doesn't have to be bank/continuous rated. Hoping for at least 3cfm and in ready to run condition.


Anyone know of anything available. I wish I had called dibs on a Rix that was for sale last summer. It went to a good home though.

Airetex is in your own back yard. Might check them out. I've been running one for a while (about 10 years). They're made outside the USA, but being so close it's worth checking out. www.airetex.com/

If you don't find something you like at Airtex then I highly recommend August Industries up in Dallas. They have a couple used units in the 5K range. Also don't forget that you will need filtration system as well. Often there are filters mounted with the compressor but not always.

So I'm really moving towards the Airtex. I had read some bad stuff about them a few years ago but now I'm hearing from multiple people they are fine. They seem to have a special right now. TX sales tax will bite me a bit and I'll have to drive up to Dallas because the residential delivery will jack the cost up. Not to mention a friend of mine who had a Bauer shipped to him and it got jacked up by UPS during shipping.


Someone was selling a Bauer Jr II e1-115 but it's an older model that only does 1.7cfm. I just dropped a 240v circuit into my garage and made room on the scuba bench. If I can get the Airetex deal set up and find a day off to drive then I guess I'll be golden.

Out of curiosity, what are you looking to fill? Cave fill doubles? Rb bottles? Single al80s for ow diving? The biggest thing people regret is going too small on their compressor. I originally just wanted a Bauer jr and said I didn't mind the slow fills. I ended up with a K14 after I did all of my research and decided to buy. You can get a used Bauer that may need some work for a Similar price to a new airtex.

Airtex definitely doesn't have a great rep. They've gotten better but they're not known to be a hardy compressor.

I have two friends with compressors already. One is at a marina and really only available when I'm diving on the boat. The other is down the street but my friend works long hours and I hate to be a mooch. I don't want to be hitting him up for a fill every time I see him. My wife also doesn't care for me disappearing without notice to go get a fill.


I just want to use this compressor for myself. I have an AL80 twinset, an AL80, 72, 2 LP95, a 40 and a 30. I plan to build a nitrox stick to make 32% and not keep my 80s and 1 95 O2 clean anymore. I'd keep 1 95 clean and get cave fills from one of my friends then use that extra gas to top off / blend 50% in my 30 or 40. Eventually I'd get a hyperfilter and do all that on my own also.


I only need to be able to fill 200cf of gas a week tops. A typical week would be 100cf. Factor in giving an occasional friend a fill and getting an occasional fill from a friend and I'm probably looking at 50 hours a year.


I haven't stepped foot in a local dive shop since last summer and I would be perfectly fine if I never did again. I have had a couple times where I wondered where my next fill would come from though...

My understanding is you're fine if you dont push them and keep them cool. They're problems come from overheating is ehat I'm told so they really cant be used for continuous duty at all. Sounds like you'll be fine. They're not like a bauer as in 30 years down the road they're still pumping.

Customer service is also spotty, but you live close to them so if all else fails you can beat on their door.
