Talking Blue Grotto CAVE April 17 - Free "No Fee" Guided Dives - General Information

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

A friend and I are holding a event at Blue Grotto on April 17...

We are donating our time as guides to anyone that has wanted to see the cave but has either has not had a chance to make it by yet or doesn't know a guide -- or perhaps has had trouble getting schedules together with a guide. Regardless of the reason....

Anyhow, all you have to do is pay the Blue Grotto admission and we will provide the guide services gratis....

It is a very small cave dive but the cave has not been destroyed so it is still cool to check out -- there is silt everywhere and on everything -- it is one of those dives that is certainly worth doing once.

Anyhow -- like I said no guide fees.

It is our personal policy (both guides) to only provide guide services for those holding a FULL CAVE level certification with excellent trim/buoyancy. This is one of those caves that from start to finish you should touch NOTHING.

Here is information to the event on Facebook -- if you want to attend please mark yourself down on the facebook page so we have an idea how many people will be coming and so that Jeff and I can plan properly.

What time would the dive be? The facebook event is a little unclear. Also, would you require a certain number of post-training dives, or is full cave the only requirement? Also, is the cave big enough for backmount, or is sidemount necessary?

    Thanks,
    Frank

Jeff and I will be there from 9am until 3pm or later -- but we don't want to do guided dives after 3pm so we have time to wrap up. So we intend to start guiding groups at 9am.

Full Cave is the only requirement other than exceptional trim and buoyancy being necessary as this is a totally "no touch" cave from start to finish. I have a link in the event post to the Blue Grotto Cave website and they have a couple videos on there that you need to watch that explains everything.

Sorry forgot to mention --- backmount is fine. As a matter of fact my friend, the other guide Jeff, only dives backmount himself.

Will you still be doing dives around 1-2pm? I don't want to inconvenience you since you're already volunteering your time.

Absolutely -- we are going to guide right up until 3pm -- two of us are doing this so that we can take breaks.

It is no inconvenience at all! We are doing this because we enjoy diving and it is a site that we want to help more people to experience while it is still available. I say "while it is available" not because I think access is going anywhere, as I don't, but sometimes things happen (like owners change) and sometimes access to sites disappear not to be seen again. It is a dive worth doing once and adding to the "been there, done that" list.

So for us, THIS IS FUN! Hope you make it.

Actually, it's a dive worth doing, period.

For those who haven't dove Blue Grotto Cave yet, it's probably as close to pristine cave as you'll find on "easy" (i.e., not deep, multi-gas, staged) cave dives. As the cave was closed to cave divers for 20 - 30 years, it's in great shape. Not beat to heck like the tourist caves are. Well worth diving.

I'm ready to dive it again

I would love to do this but I'm expecting to head out for Detroit on the 11th. Any chance you guys may do this again?

I can not speak for Jeff, but I might do this again sometime. If I do it will be in the Winter or perhaps even this time again next year.
