Question how much and how fast a response Manatee has to tidal changes. For example, the Pinetta station north of Madison will be high from rains in south Georgia,but the gauge changes at Madison will go up slowly days later.

Your comparing apples to oranges here.

The pinetta/Madison example is usually due to runoff from excess rain. It takes a little while to drain that big of a basin, and hence why it takes a day or two for the pulse of water to reach Madison. There is no tidal influence here.

Manatee is tidal. Meaning it experience a stage and velocity flux twice a day every day, as the water rises and falls. Velocity has a large swing because of it and can literally halve or double in speed over the course of a day. Check out the site I linked above and see for yourself....

In order to have a near-real time velocity meter it will have to have a cable lead up to the telemetry equipment.

That won't work either for several reasons. First, have you seen that thing from the surface? It's not your standard well head....

In order to justify funds and get the higher ups on board with such a purchase I would need to be able to get total outflow/inflow (reversals) and as you are well aware there are significant inputs between the vent and the well casing that would make those estimates impossible and a waste of funds.

Thanks, I knew that was a bad example,but the best at the time. Some people I know have looked at tide charts and expect the results to apply instantaneously like Crystal Beach. I will check the site and thanks for the reference.
