Default Current NSS-CDS membership numbers? Ginnie Attendance (ETC)?

Is the number of current members of the NSS-CDS publicly available? How does this compare with historic numbers?

I'm also wondering if we know how many people are cave diving; in the US or otherwise. It makes me wonder if anyone knows the gate number of Cave Divers at somewhere popular and consistently dive-able year round like Ginnie so we can see if there is quantifiable trend.

Any other metric or insight is FULLY welcome and encouraged.

    Thanks!

I believe the answer to your query is evidenced by the condition of the more common 'sacrificial' caves.

I understand what you are saying. I am wondering if it is less of a function of numbers versus quality of divers trained. Many say the peak in training was the mid-90s and there were large number of cave divers turned out,and where there has been an ebb and flow based on things like the economy, nothing has really equaled that time period. That being said the caves during that time period showed typical attrition, but there seems to be an acceleration of this attrition over the last few years.

The other consideration to the OP is that the average cave diver gets trained and stays active in the sport about 3 years. So where you may see a large number of certifications over a given period, very few are still around.

You might want to set up a poll. Are you a cave blogger or a cave diver? lol

Polls only cover people on CDF, and whom feel inclined to answer a poll...

Just trying to understand better where we are at as a sport, and as a community.

Can you define Sport Cave Diving vs Tech or Exploratory Cave Diving ? Perhaps these two titles are definiations in of themselves.
How do you compare your own dives to these ? Where do you fall in ? I never considered myself a sport cave diver as I always worked hard on my skill sets & was intent on refining my gear as well. Today, cave diving is about out of reach for me financially wise. I do not earn the minimum income to be able to continue. I enjoy reading of the latest adventures & perhaps that is what cave diving really is: An adventure !

Happy New Year you all. Be safe !
