What is that on the bottom? It looks like some kind of cover.
Looks good. I would like to get a sphere, I would then use the 3L with air for suit and wing inflation, as well as dil if needed, then the al6 could be ditched.
I have had people tell me the sphere made the breather extremely butt heavy. I don't dive a breather let alone a sidemount one so I am simply curious.
Hey Jon, I met you at Ginnie a few weeks ago when you were testing your setup. I don't think you had the O2 sphere yet, that looks sweet!
What is your limiting factor for time, O2 or scrubber?
At this point the limiting factor for rebreathers is scrubber, so scrubber is the direct answer.
As far as technical applications are concerned rebreather technology is at a standstill and the way we scrub gas is the reason why, take a look at all of the latest, coolest rebreathers being designed and delivered to the marketplace, what can they do that hasn't already been done? The answer is nothing, don't get me wrong there are a lot of very cool products around these days but ALL of them are limited by one thing........scrubber technology, until we see a dramatic improvement in scrubber efficiency we will be stuck here in that 8-14 hour range depending on several factors.
Even the anticipated 9 or 10LB scrubbers have serious and potentially fatal flaws not from the design of bigger scrubbers but from the issues that exist with the media we use to scrub after its been exposed to such high levels of moisture for so long.
The other issue is the human body, we were never designed to breathe at 10 ATA or 5 or 3, so after about 5 hours our body's begin to compensate for that and its not notacible however when this happens CO2 buildup can be rapid.....
There are many complex issues here working in tandem.
Cheers hope this helps.
It was a pleasure to meet you.
