    I agree
absolutly NO information about new caves should be released on the internet
we've all seen what has happened to what are some of the greatest cave systems in the world

    Default Find or lay?

    ROUND 2

It still goes back to the question of “ just how many people would dive it if they knew where it was “ 90% of those sites you guys are finding are so hard to get to no one is going to go, look how hard it is to dive Little Salt, climb a fence hike a few feet and climb down a mud bank… no one dives that and it’s almost right next to a road! ( Are we trespassing? Yes, just about every dive there someone with a gun and badge shows up asking what’s going on, we tell them and they tell us to be safe and then they leave ) Now ask someone if they want to 4x4 it then hike through the swamp and try to find some cave to dive it…yeah right….

Hay Bob got my intro card last week and just bought this set of doubles, how about you and me dive EN2? haha

    Back to the first post:

Do you want to find a new cave or do you just want to lay line? The guys that are posting here have LOTS of caves they have found but most of them don’t have the time to lay line and map them, I’d say get with one of them off line and ask if they could use a hand if you want to help.

But then what do I know, I’m on the other side of the world in a desert right now….

    32 days left…

The Florida Cave Survey is dedicated to documenting all caves in the State of Florida, they support survey and give information out to appropriate people only. I think they are up to around a thousand caves now. If you have a true desire to explore and document caves as well as protect them then you need to support the Cave Survey in the state you live in. All of the survey groups are on the NSS web site. There are people dedicated like you are to this effort. Let thm help you. Cindy Butler
We do essentially the same thing. We catalogue and collect data on new systems and hand it over to the scientists and governing bodies to protect the karst.Probably the lowest priority is passing the information along so a bunch of people can recreationally dive them as for the most part it serves no purpose and traffic even, careful traffic creates wear.If people are involved in the community and demonstrate ethics then locations are provided (if it is not a exceedingly sensitive environment).I fully support not sharing cave info to joe public but support sharing amongst legitimate explorers/scientists etc.I DEFINATELY agree that hoarding locales for personal glory is detrimental in the end as INDEED building encroachment is severely affecting karst areas. While I understand wanting to be quiet so no one scoops "booty" perhaps we may need to all look at the bigger picture.

I am sure my opinion will be a popular way of thinking

I share my info with the people who count I have a few friends that work for the state that know most of my holes, knew about some of them before I dived them. But I bet it wouldnt really matter if I put some of the sites online as they are a pain in the ass to get to.

In my mind many people have been defining "exploration" far too narrowly. Some people seem to think that if there is a line already in the cave then it has been explored and that everyone who comes along later is just a tourist. If that is the case, then everyone who went west after Lewis and Clark or everyone who went to the moon after Apollo 11 were just tourists too.
There are several other legitimate forms of exploration. In addition to new passages and better surveys, all kinds of archaeological, hydrological, geological, and biological discoveries are waiting to be found, and who knows what else. If your reels are the only tools you are using for exploration, then I suggest you broaden your horizons and interests just a bit, and start seeing things with "better eyes". Just my opinion. -Alan

I'm not sure what your getting at Allen unless it was just a general FYI of your view. The subject was finding NEW caves. Not pushing the line in old ones. I do believe a lot can and is done by people after the first explorers. Mapping, science, data collection and just plain old fun! No one is picking on anybody here. Maybe I'm confused again, Cindy

First of all we need to all work together to get more site open for the good of cave diving as a group.I know what its like to find virgin cave and working hard to find it but as far as I'm concern its there for one and all to enjoy. This is the same story that always goes when it comes to new sites (oh mines secret I worked to hard to find it) ah bullshit. Cindys idea is the right one if you don't want put it out for all at least tell those guys she mentioned. As for Colt and Titan you guys need to get some woman in your lifes or men whatever is your style is.As for the rest sounds like your manginas are sore and you need to get some sort of life. HAHA

Default "take only pictures & leave only bubbles"-!

At one particular CDS workshop in Branford, awhile ago, I remember a couple of guys by the names of Skiles & Exley ranting on & on about some of their finds below the good earth. They were having fun with the audience, sharing their spirits of some of the caves they were exploring. Poking fun at each other as well, it enlighened us to catch their enthusiam for exploration. Not much has changed in the spirit of things for cave exploration, other than how we do it & some of the new gear that we are using. To this day, nothing excites me more than to find a new Karst window, that no one has been thru, or layed line in. These are the spots that will kick you in the heart & want to share with everyone, but perhaps they are better explored quietly with a couple of close dive buddys who will keep your secrets-! So, if I or any of the other explorer types invite any of you along on a sojourn into a 'new' world, my suggestion to you is to jump at the oppurtunity to go caving-! There is no finer endeavor-!
Dive safe, have fun & if you find something cool, save it to share with your favorite dive buddys. {Cindy/Lee/FW/Ary/TJ/Chip/Ghost/Sludge/Jammer/John/Curtis/BillOg/Scott/...etc-

A lot of people know where Wayne's World is... doesn't mean they dive it...

There are many caves out there that not everyone would want to dive.

Ones without a nice dirt road right up to it, 30ft "normal visibility", no mount entrance, high flow entrance, silty entrance/passage, zero vis down to 100ft, the list goes on...

Everyone knows where Everest is ... doesn't mean everyone that climbs mountains once in awhile go to climb it....
