    Default Slovenia

Have an opportunity to teach a course (in Ljubljana) this summer and know that there is a lot of karst there but the stuff online is sparse. Anyone have first hand experience or secondhand info about diving opportunities would be appreciated. Bill Huth

Bill, send me an email with some details. I can get you connected you to the local caving/research groups.

They've got four instructors already and seem to already have an international presence, too! Some serious up-and-comers?

Does anyone know where Slovenia is?

You need someone local with you, you need diving and dry caving certification and you're supposed report your dive to the police beforehand. But no one will actually check certification and most pollicemen don't know about the reports and we'd like to keep it that way

But then again there's only one cave where they might check on you is Bilpa, which is 50m from the Croatian border.

Most caves have poor visibility, about 5m is what you'll usually get on the way in, worse on the way out. River Ljubljanica has 2 springs near Vrhnika (Veliko and Malo Okence - big and small window) that are easily reachable (100-200m distance from parking with mild slope).
The best visibility is in Suhadolca cave on the southern edge of Cerknisko jezero but the water level will be too low in the summer. First 200-30m of the cave is rather shallow and will be dry.

If you want to see Olms, there's plenty of options. If you want to see large halls, you'll have to go somewhere else
