Well I came across a Halcyon Contour for sale cheap and I bought it it. I have pulled all the padding off the sholders and back of it. I like it better than the SMS 100 as it is way more stable with multiple stages, scooter etc. The SMS'S are bulky upfront with those stupid plastic buckles. Also I was having an issue getting butt light at the end of the dive with stages and Faber tanks. The Halcyon Contour still has a few issues. One thing that I don't like is the door handles sitting on top of the wing. Either your tanks are going to be out of trim at the end or beginning of the dive. I am going to buy me an Armadillo. I really like them. The modified SMS 100 and 75 used a lot of the Armadillo's design but without the stupid plastic buckles and the door handles are not sitting on top of the wing.
Sounds cool. We need to dive again! Have you done any more survey of Madison since our dive?
Yeah a little. I need to get back over there. I found a cool passage and need to try to push to the end of it. I started surveying a cave just up the road from my house on Holmes Creek and have found some cool stuff there so that has kept me pretty busy. I definitely like Madison and there is way more to it than I ever knew. We need to go diving again sometime.
Wet cave? How awesome is that to be close to home!!
There are several just North of Panama City Beach. Some are only good when everything is blown others are good at low water levels. It takes a boat to get to them so they just don't see much traffic. One of the caves has 6000' of main line that Hunsucker, Beecher and Leonhardt pushed years ago. It is only worth diving during a flood but when conditions are good it is one of my favorite cave dives in Florida. Come on up sometime and I will show you around.
