Doing CCR deco, when OC divers are exitting it sounds like a freight train going by from bubbles rolling on the ceiling.

It is the bubbles migrating along the ceiling.

I've heard it in Orange Grove too, I always assumed it was cars passing nearby overhead... possible?
The sound comes from gas bubbles moving through the hair cracks in the rock and expanding as they race towards the surface. The strength of the expanding gas is strong enough to make the rock produce the crack/rumble. Depending on the quality of the rock, sound can be very loud or not. Some caves in France are extremely loud and it sounds like train is passing over you all the time.
AFAIK. there is no correlation between cave stability and this rumbling sound.
