I didn't stay at a Holiday In Express, but...

Especially having knowledge that drunkards and kids are prone to playing with deco tanks, you would potentially bear some respsibility. Read up on 'attractive nuisance'.

Now personnaly, I don't feel too sorry for anyone getting hurt (or worse) from borrowing your gas. Just another nominee for the Darwin awards. But.. we live in a litigious world. Some doofus orphans his 5 kids, or some 13yr old kills himself etc. You will have the lawyers lining up to take you to court. They will make this sound like you left a tank of gas, matches and fireworks in the middle of the sandbox during recess!

I'd like to think that if people realized the bottles weren't lost, that they were important to the safety of the divers, SOME of them might think twice. I'm plenty cynical, but I still think it would be beneficial. It just needs to be clear that taking them is endangering the divers. I really don't think they have a clue.

There is also the possibility that someone else will read and understand the signs. This person might then bring it to the attention of the suspect divers and prevent further incident.

    Hey, it could happen!

I must have been off to the left at my 10' stop when y'all went in. I think the stop sign is about 37'. Eric said someone messed with your tank yesterday so we dropped them there. Nice to finally meet you all and hang out last night.

Used to be someone that used to put a tank neck ring on and with some chain would padlock their oxygen tank. Always thought that was extreme, and wouldn't prevent someone from purging the gas,but it would assure your tank was still there when you got back.

This is a scary situation when you have deco and no bottle but that is one of the failures a dive is planned for.
I do believe that placing tanks farther in is the answer.
I think signs are a good idea.
I would feel bad if someone illegally used one of my tanks and a fatality resulted especially if it was a kid.

Ive been horrified to watch swimmers, tubers, snorkelers at public waters.
From throwing bricks, grabbing stowed bottles, generally behaving badly.
When it heats up the natives get restless and there will be mayhem.
That is why we are the trained ones to handle, plan, overcome all the mischief.

Nice euphemism with less negative connotation. I can think of some other adjectives

How many o2 tanks need to be stolen before we use some common sense and carry them far enough back swimmers and snorkelers cannot get to them?

It is summer time in Florida....teens are out of school & prone to go swimming, snorkeling, tokin some weed, theivery, bashing car windows, stealing anything worth stealing, beer swaggling, skinny dipping, & in general creating havoc around the springs ! The only way around this is to invite them to go diving with you & then cut their line or their hoses, about 45ft in ! Then there are the Pro Perps who operate year around, & you had better take more precautions. Park your car or suv/van where it can be seen & lock it up. Don't leave anything inside.
or Pay a Military VET to watch over your stuff !
This criminal activity has been going on far as I remember. There are good & then there are bad.....>you have to plan !
