While I did not see them , was told of free divers using an open water scooter with one light making it the lips and back. Don't assume it a diver. Also had to chase off free divers making the eye to ear. Since they came in by boat they basically told us to pound sand. But after Fish and Game talked to them they left.
How far into the system are we going to have go to leave deco bottles. Between the lips and the keyhole?

Al -- exactly where did you leave the bottle? Just curious as I usually clip mine to the sign at the ear/gallery but might have to hide it now like I do at LR. Maybe MA can make up some camo/sand covering where we can hide things in plain sight.

I wouldn't mind doing the extra deco time if I knew it saved someone's life... I would expect a note or at minimum the courtesy of them telling someone there what happened. Maybe it's time to start leaving them in the junction room...

I have been known to drop my O2 just before the lips when too many swimmers were around.
I left my bottle behind the sign. Guess I will have to place it further into the system. Wish I knew why. I will accept a PM and I will keep it quiet.
If it WERE a cave diver, would it make any difference how far into the cave you placed it?

Based on my read of the comments, its hard to believe a free diver would have a) taken it from there, and b) put it back somewhere else.
This seems like such an odd course of events. The only scenario I can imagine, is that an exiting cave diver picked it up either by mistake or ??, and then maybe asked another outbound diver to drop it back off for him and then confusion in the hand-off landed it in the wrong spot?? In any case, this is a bad deal! Just speculating on how this might have happened.
Due to the fact that the bottle was still in the cave, I think we can all agree that theft was not the issue here. Adler has a good point. We've all returned from dives and seen numerous deco bottles at the reaper sign and for the most part, they all look the same. It would be easy to pick up the wrong bottle and move on to the deco stop. What is troubling here, is that whoever did take the bottle had to have realized at some point that he had the wrong cylinder and then failed to step up to the plate and admit their mistake. It's hard to imagine any other options!
I wish I knew how to add a pic of my tank I would. A person would have to be blind to mistake my tank for theirs. Also remember, 1800 PSI was used from the tank. I feel that a diver, not familiar with Gennie, got in trouble on deco and needed my oxygen tank. I agree with an earlier post, if it saved his life he is welcome to it. I am glad that I had enough back gas to deco with and did not have a problem as a result of the deed.
There were some Russian divers that were removing their gear when I exited. Could have been one of them since I could observe that they were not familiar with the system. They spoke no English or at least I got that impression. I mentioned my Deco Bottle and got a foreign response that I could not understand.
Enough said; I am safe and obviously so is the other diver.
