Short cords suck...particularly if you decide to start scootering. If you can't comfortably scooter with the light in either hand it can be a long day. If your butt mounted light comes from the left, you need to be able to put it in your right outstretched hand (so you can be on the trigger and holding the light in the same hand while clearing ears, adjusting bouyancy etc. so your light isn't bouncing around like an emergency signal. Happens practically every time you change depth. If your butt mounted light comes from the right you need to be able to hold it in your left outstretched hand so you can scooter and see where you are going. I'd consider an new and longer cord if you ever plan to go scooter crazy.

if you are ordering a new light just ask them for a longer cord of whatever length you want. No idea what light it is, but extending the cord should be FoC from the "normal players" i.e. Light Monkey, UWLD, etc. If not, you can go to your equivalent of Home Depot or Lowes, buy the cord, and with two wrenches and a soldering iron put on whatever length cord you want.

...and if HID being super careful not to change polarity.

My light setup on my Nomad is the same as Tegg's, with the same Dive Rite quick mount, but it's a slimline canister. Works great - I never notice it's there in the water, but I can easily reach the switch or take the light off my belt and put it back on. In this position I find the standard length cord is plenty long.

    Forrest,
Your light should have come with the same type of setup where you can pull the loop off the bottom of the canister instead of removing the buckle every time. We use heavy shock cord which can be adjusted and user replaced. Did your light not come with it?

Maybe I better look in the box with the stuff I didn't use
