I'd suggest taking a gander at your equipment config. Tangled to the point of needing to cut the line is pretty rough.

Most folks have gotten somehow tangled at some point, I know I sure have. Don't worry, just keep practicing and it will suddenly all come together

When my dive buddy tried to run a full size reel between my tank and my ribs.... decided I would rather sacrifice the line.... don't really think the line was between my upper and lower tank clips but she insisted that it was... pretty sure it was wrapped around the lower part of my tank but after the sharp jab in the ribs felt that I really didn't care about the line on the reelLOVE MY Z-KNIFE !!!!! definitely got that move committed to muscle memory, got a little delusional and was feeling like Zorro for a few seconds.
Why yes that was me inshorts and a t-shirt
oops, a drysuit @ the 700' marker
I'm a bit like Bobby and Forrest...the main difference being, I can't run one with either hand.
When you're there you know there's a There there.

I practice running with both depending on the placement.
In flow its always right hand, hold with left.
Practice makes some great video and when watched later great entertainment!
We have become sold on video feed back with later revelations that bring the point home.
