    Question Ambidextrous line deployment

Ok.. I know I'm going to get grief from this but I have ran into an issue and am curious about everyone else.

I have discovered that every time I run a reel in my left hand I will inevitably get tangled in the line. If I run the line with the reel in my right hand I never have an issue, of course I am right handed. Is this a personal problem or is it normal and everyone has issues with running line in their off hand??

    Thanks ahead of time.

Just practice more, suddenly you'll run line without thinking much about it. I use whichever hand is more convenient for where I'm at.

I am left handed and actually prefer to deploy line via my right hand, but can use either depending on location to cave features.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.

I am ambidextrous so I have always been able to use either hand equally well running line. Dr. X is very right handed and it took a lot of practice for her to be proficient running it with her left. There are a few caves we dive that it is much easier to run it with the left and on the left of the cave. When we go to them she usually runs the line to keep sharp.

It is rather hard for me to understand how someone would be limited to using one hand. I know that is how it is with most people however it seems rather strange from my point of view. Down side for me is when signing legal documents & such. Had a closing on a house that got kicked back because the signatures were different. I had to resign everything using only one hand. That was not fun.

I can run some reels with either hand, but there are a few reels that make it hard to run left handed. I usually use my index finger as a brake, which works well on most reels in my right hand. A few reels, when run in the left hand, have the crank constantly hitting my brake finger. I can usually find another way to control braking on those, but I am sure that would take practice for a new cave diver.

I'm with you. I'm super happy with the reel in my right hand, but I was taught to run it with the left. If I run it with the left and the line routing is to the right of me, I run the line through my right hand and place the tie-offs with my right, and that is actually my favorite way to manage the reel. If everything is on my left, I try to hold the reel as far below me as possible, because otherwise, I will get my fins in the line.

Ok, so I'm NOT alone in this. I don't know what all I got entangled in on Saturday, but it was to the point that I literally had to cut the line, somehow it got between me and my tank?? I was trying to hold the line out to the side, but not LOW.... wouldn't have been an issue but this was second time I got entangled running with left hand line deployment and only the second time I have ran line with my left hand, thinking I will be practicing this while keeping the line LOW instead of out to the side.

THANK YOU EVERYONE for the feedback.
