Some of the problems are caused by us because of factions we create. It used to be the Hogarthian versus personal preference. Then we have had DIR vs non-DIR, NACD vs CDS, cave shop x customers vs cave shop y customers, and now I see backmount vs sidemount. Fans of these particular groups clash and this is given a definition of cave politics, but far from it. Each of these groups is passionate, and strong opinioned, and there is conflict that is generated.

You neglected to mention OC vs CC (and all the CC variations). You are losing your touch keeping up with the factions, tisk tisk!

I observed PSCR and CCR commingling at the Nest this weekend. It was a truly momentous occasion...

...until the lone OC diver started his ascent and ruined the peaceful and tranquil silence with his horrendous bubble blowing.

You haven't heard? We decided that backmount is the far better option. There isn't much of a debate left on that one anymore...

    HAHAHA so true.

Except you're missing females in there, there should be at least 2 to show ratio of male to female cave divers.

I always say that 2/3 of Florida cave divers hate the other 2/3 of Florida cave divers.

I also think that it's not just cave divers that get this passionate and argumentative. I heard about a club of "naturally bearded Santas" and they had a big schism that led to eternal bickering.

In mountain biking, there were some arguments, but nothing like cave divers. I gave advice to another moderator on our local mtb club on how to handle a problem. He didn't take my advice and things fell to $#!7. He became despondent and said, "I'm the worst moderator ever." Hah, hah. Nope, you're not and get some perspective. There's nothing to take seriously until death threats are issued.

Yes, cave diving politics were much worse in the past. But that's no reason to not strive to keep thing civil and quit the frickin' attacks.

For godsakes, people! There are good ideas, bad ideas, new ideas, and different ideas. Nobody is king whose opinions are always best. Discuss, disagree, agree. But in the end, you can't force others to take your opinion. Give it politely and move on!

Land of Enchantment -- not so great for cave diving, but mighty scenic!

    This quote comes to mind..

“I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”
