    Default WTB - Survey Paper

Does anyone have any survey paper they would like to sell? I am looking for the Rite in the Rain Durarite paper that Jason Richards designed. The paper is discussed in the thread below. I am looking for a pack or two.

    Thanks,
    Chris

When in doubt... go to bob though it may not be the diving version of the paper.

Contact Rite in the Rain and tell them you want Jason's survey sheets. My understanding is that Jason placed a large order awhile back and that Rite in the Rain kept his design on file so they could print more as need arose.

I have a few packs around here somewhere, I'll look for them You can have them, if I can find, for cost of mailing to you. I also have a line measuring device for surveying that never seemed to sell well and probably not available anymore. It was sold by Dive Gear Express. You can have it for $100.00 plus shipping (I paid $300.00 for it).

Did you contact Jason? I bought some from him a while back. If you looking for a large order Rite in the Rain is the solution.

Great! I will definitely take the paper. I will PM you. I had never heard of the device you are talking about but I found a thread about it on the CDF, (link below). I don't know if it will be of much use sump diving though. Does anyone else want it?

    Thanks Skip!

Yes, that's it, FAS-t. I did modify it too and thought I posted all about it. Italy uses thicker line than we do here, but I found that cutting inner tube and putting it over the spindles gave it a good grip on our thinner slicker cave line. It does take practice and excellent buoyancy control - what doesn't? It's also really useful anytime you want to measure line, fast and efficient. Three spindles, the line loops through like the old 16mm projectors in grade school. they roll as you pull it along the line and a counter ticks off centimeters. When I made the spindles thicker it was off a little, so I measured a lot of line over many months above ground and under, and figured out a conversion formula. I also was able to calculate a standard deviation and estimate the amount of error so the line could be measured as 50 feet plus or minus an inch (for example). I have the spreadsheet around here too somewhere so could include that as well.

I'm not cave diving anymore - just not healthy enough. and it looks like I won't be anytime soon and when/if I am it won't be virgin cave or surveying. Even back in the day with Jason and gang, I couldn't see flip and seeing flip is necessary for accurate reading of small numbers! My point is I'm going through all the stuff and am willing sell it cheap or even loan it out if someone has a use or just wants to try it out.

I have other stuff too and will try taking pictures and posting over the next few weeks.

Wow. That's the second time this week that I've heard someone mention Bob & Bob ( or is it just Bob now?). It's been at least 10 years since I've heard someone see or buy something from them.

The paper that Bob & Bob sells is the standard Rite in the Rain paper, which is good stuff for caving but not for diving. The "Jason Paper" is plasticized paper which won't waterlog and disintegrate when you try to write on it underwater. You don't have to get the "Jason Paper", but if you're using it for diving, at least make sure you get the plasticized stuff which you can buy with any pattern you choose. You have to buy custom runs from Rite in the Rain and are subject to minimum orders, but it's well worth the cost.

So, maybe it's worth getting a new group-buy going. I could organize it or would buy some from the buy, either way I'm happy. I'd probably run out in the next year anyway, so the timing is right for me.

I have been using Rite in the Rain paper for 11 years doing fauna counts, and surveying, with great results. What I do find is that it doesn't work well with a standard #2 pencil, but I use graphite that I purchase from art sections of craft stores, similar to what comes with wet note books. I like being able to design my form, and run it through a laser printer.

For as long as I've bought from B&B it's only been B. My last actual purchase was at an MVOR in 2005, bought 150' of PMI rope. It is sad really, the majority of stuff on the website is 'unavailable' or 'sold-out' I think he keeps the store for nostalgia now more than anything else.
