Harder to understand blowing a knob off in the open by hill 400 area. Found a knob around 2900 mark on my last trip.
Doubt someone will claim this one![]()
I don't understand this statement. The knob didn't blow off. There wasn't any loss of gas. The nut on the knob simply backed out. I had it happen on a tank after a vavle service by a HS shop. I would think the Hill 400 would make perfect sense because so many people drop stages in that are and are turning their valve on and off, so therefore increasing the likelihood of one falling off.
Maybe I'm missing something.
Good point. Nvm my comment.
Blown off or not it looks like the stem is broken rather than the nut backing off.
I stand corrected. Did not see the stem when I looked at the photo on my phone.

I would like to find out what happened, may be relevant for safety.
A weakened stem that snapped off on the divers hand, do side mounters close/open tanks at each gas switch, or are the tanks always open?
Backmount collision? Swim/scooter? If swimming, how hard of a collision to cause it to snap off?
The second spring puzzles me. I just wanted to know how it snapped off.
Maybe contact me privately?
How many remember the metal bars that would be bolted to the top part of your doubles? They also made nice handles to grab and pull the tanks to be able to shut off the valves as well as protecting them from being damaged. The last set I saw was at Steve Gamble's house when he lived close to Ginnie Springs.
