I had my Petrel reset a couple of times on a single dive. E-mailed Shearwater and they said to send it in for a fix but I changed the battery and it's never happened again so I haven't bothered. I've always used regular off-the-shelf disposable AA's, although I have an Enveloop NiMH rechargeable in there now. It's working find although I don't know if the battery gauge is accurate -- hoping it won't suddenly die mid-dive (I do carry a backup computer). So my experience seems to have been battery specific. If it ever happens again I'll have them change the contacts which seems to solve the problem.

If any of you has a problem with your Petrel resetting either while on a dive or at any other time, I encourage you to contact us at info@shearwater.com so that we can help solve your issue.
We will put you in touch with our US service center so that Curt can check out your Petrel, make the fix and send it back. This is a quick process and doesn't take more than a few days so you won't be without your Petrel for long. It's better to do this than to install a Saft battery.

Yes, in general using a Saft battery is fine, but if it's to solve the resetting issue, let us address the root cause of the problem so that if you one day need to use an alkaline battery you can do so worry free.

Just so we're clear...has anyone had an issue with corrosion and oxidation between their gold contacts of a petrel and the nickel of a battery? Quit arguing for the sake of arguing and stay focused on the issue at hand, rather than your need to be right.
