if the only award for the general diver is the Abe Davis, how does the CDs monitor the dive experience of the average member? would it be helpful for them to ask the number of dives a diver has when they renew their membership.

That doesn't make any sense. It's not the only award.

And what makes you think anyone is "monitoring" anything? Nobody's got time for that.

"Monitor the dive experience" ?!???? The NSSCDS and NACD aren't here to "monitor" - they are cave conservation and training organizations.

If you want "monitoring" join the NSA.

It would be nice to see some kind of award offered at the Intro level to encourage more experience before going full cave. For full cave I don't see any issues with the current parameters

Isn't earning the card award enough? This isn't 3-5 year old's soccer where everybody gets a trophy, even the fat kid in the back of the goal picking his nose.

I think some people are too rushed to get a "full cave" card and make few, if any, dives at the Intro level before starting their full cave class. I feel some minimal amount of dives/hours should be required in order to gain some experience before advancing to full cave. Otherwise I agree fully with your sentiments here.

I agree with that, but an award won't help that. Exactly what you describe is why I have some particular feelings about the NACD/NSS-CDS systems over a GUE/NAUI system.
