Has anyone out there made their own underwater mp3 player? I know oceanic sells one but its $400 and I want some ideas on how to make my own out of my exsisting mp3 player. Someones gotta have something clever.

I was thinking of the same thing, I think it would be cool to listen to some music on the deco stop. But I was thinking it might not be a good idea in the cave as your ears might save you if you have a air leak or burst disc failure or something. Just my thoughts on it but I would love to be able to listen to some tunes on deco or safety stop.

What about using a small pelican case, and caulking where the wire goes out? I don't know about the earpieces though if they will fry after being immersed in water or not.
Jay,
funny you should ask...
Back in the 'day, there was the Blitch-phone Project...![]()
Basically, I conditioned a generic 4" PM magnet speaker with the entire contents of a can of K****n spray paint....used 20' speaker lead to a top-side cassette player. Short story, you need a LOT of audio power to move a speaker cone against the density of water...
It DID work, but short range only (test track was OF COURSE Zep's No Quarter live, the official sound of Peacock!)
From time to time, I've toyed with the idea of doing this with a CD player (MP3 makes much more sense), and use a 5 watt stereo amp (circuit board from FAR Circuits) using a P*****n case with a precious few thru-hull controls from Ik***e camera housing components...

You would have to leave it with your deco tanks though![]()
Or the product Oceanic OEMs for a MUCH more reasonable price

(for those who are perplexed, this is on the Live Zep album, The Song Remains the Same)
I think the hook for Caves is the watery effect John Paul Jones has on the electric piano..the building Drama doesn't hurt either...actually used it as a sound track for a software SlideShow generator doing a piece on MB...effect was WONDERFUL!
