Environmental correlates of elevation, such as sun exposure and pollution measures, produced significantly inferior predictions of lung cancer incidence when compared with elevation itself.

Considering more people live at lower elevations resulting in higher pollution and ground level ozone densities, an increase in lung cancer should be expected. When they factored that in, their theory fell apart.

Too bad the media doesn't understand what bad research looks like.
