Default 2015 Social - when and where?

We've been holding New Year's Eve socials for a number of years now, but it's been five years or so since we've had one at any other time. It's really difficult to set one up well in advance, what with flooding and hurricanes and all, but we've had some really great events over the years. (I can brag that I've attended EVERY CDF Social that has been held in Florida.)

Looking back, we have held them at Ginnie, River Rendezvous (Convict Spring), Manatee Spring, and even at the pavilion across the street from the Luraville Country Store. We once had one scheduled for Lafayette Blue State Park, but we got hurricaned out.

Maybe we can have one this summer - let's brainstorm this and come up with a time and place. I can help out but I've had to be the social director for too many times in a row, so this is also a call-out for a new director.

    Speak your mind!

Convict has a nice big pavilion now, and a pool complex with pool, hot tub, and "conversation pool". They have camping, RVs, cabins, houses, and hotels all on site. Close enough to Peacock, Cow, Little River, Telford, etc.

I think you will have to go a bit further south if you wish to have a New Year's Eve social in the summer ;p

And the new owners are cave friendly, and would probably welcome a summer social there. I second this idea!

I found the old link to that social in 2003: LINK

That was a fun social. It would be nice to have one there again.

I like the idea of a summer social. River Rendezvous would be a good place for it. For many people, events must be announced well in advance. Cave diving events have to be scheduled around available vacation days, mandatory professional meetings, and family occasions.

The bottom line here is: We need someone to volunteer to run the next social. Without someone to set everything up, there won't be a social.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does volunteering entail? Seems straightforward: date, location, secure donations, organize attendance, plan food and drinks, provide a method to sign up, maybe some events/presenters.....

    What am I missing?

I nominate Jason Greenwood. He's newly married and therefore in the Honeymoon phase whereby he is easily forgiven.

Coordinating a location with the landowners. Not to mention the VOLUNTEER part.
