Answered the question. At one time that was a big deal. Had a friend who was expelled because he got a Dive Rite dry suit on sale he could afford ,and was told it needed to be a DUI-never quite understood that one. I have noticed a shift away from this list which surprised me that it is still archived on the page.

There's more than a few historical things on there written by Trey. Some are applicable, some aren't. Its always best to actually talk to someone and ask questions before making assumptions.
For the gear, its all about function within the team setting. If your Dive Rite suit is dry and your Mares fins move you through the water, rock on. If the harness rubbing on the back zip causes it to fail prematurely and you miss a dive or your mares flippers cause you to be head heavy and unable to dive at the team level, then those pieces of gear won't be well received. There's one team guy who shows up with a backzip Dive Rite suit and its dry and ready to rock so no one says anything or even really notices.
You will see an abundance of DUI suits and Scubapro fins (add in any other stereotypical piece of gear) because that's what many of us have found to work well within this application, but its certainly not 'mandatory'.
i dont fit in scubapro fins. i use turtles. dont tell anyone
