Does anyone out there have the formula for Ear Beer?
Would appreciate it...and so would my ears.

Read the manual
2:1
2 parts distilled white vinagar
1 part 90% isopropyl alcohol
And a couple drops of glycerin to lube the ear drum
make sure it is 90% cause this is what dries the water less than 90% is not going to dry up the water.
I hope this helps I got the formula from a friend and he got it from his ear nose and throat doctor. Since I have used it I have not had any problems I also dive doc's pro plugs with vents they seem to help alot also.
(All give some, Some give ALL . Semper Fi) Safe Diving (JAMMER)
I use 1/3 each:
distilled white vinegar
isopropyl alcohol
hydrogen peroxide
I've had ear problems ever since I was a lifeguard in college. My ears trap water. If I don't follow a regimen, I WILL have ear problems. For example, on a long trip, I have clearing problems starting on about the third day. If I follow the regimen, I have no problems for over a week.
This sounds stupid, but I put several drops in before each dive, and after each dive. Scientifically, this makes no sense. But it works. I can go on a week-long trip and have no problems.

OK. I will try both formulas. I understand the 90% alcohol to dry the water, glycerin to keep the moisture and I assume the vinegar for Ph.
The Hydrogen Peroxide for killing germs? I will be diving salt water--pity -in the Caymans. So which formula would serve me best?

Read the manual
This is what I use. The vinegar kills bacteria, the alcohol(I use 91% isopropyl alcohol, can be purchased at any drugstore) dries out the ears, and the peroxide also kills bacteria, and gives you an audible indication of whether your ears are clean or not. If you hear it bubbling, you need to do it again.Originally Posted by Sludge

I'm with you Russell on your formula. I had a problem with ear infections and when I use this mix I do not get them. Now if someone could just invent some to have prevented my flu and the cold that lingering afterwards. Some people use a little less of the Vineger due to the smell but it works in the three parts.Originally Posted by Sludge

Am I having a senior moment, or wasn't there a recipe that used a tad of boric acid??

Why don't you try each formula in one ear only and tell us the resultsOriginally Posted by eanxmiss

I have had a very serious problem with my ears to a point where I would have had to turn dives(good things my buddies are very patient). I visited quite a few doctors, called DAN etc. Nothing happened. None of the ear beers worked, so I kind of stopped putting it in. It appears to me that I might have a sinus problem related to the weather since all the incidents happen during winter. Of course the ear beer does not help on the internal part of the ear, but I was kind of hoping that I might help.
Human Evolution makes me wonder: from HomoErectus to HomeSapiens, from Dry Caves to Wet Caves. Nevertheless, from HomoErectus to HomeSapiens, from Org. Caves still to Org. Caves! DAMN ...
I use to visit the doc after every weekend of diving due to ear problems.
I read an article in an old DAN 'Alert Diver' mag and it suggested a 50/50 mixture of alcohol and white vinegar. The alcohol dries and the white white vinegar is acidic and bacteria doesn't like an acidic environment.
I have not been to the doc for an ear infection in years. I use a squirt after every dive.
I asked my doctor about this and he told me to leave out the peroxide. 50/50 white vinegar and 70% alcohol. If I remember right, you leave out the peroxide because if there was an infection in there, it wouldn't help to heal it (I think because I use it so regularly he didn't want it to be a potential problem).
I also talked with an EMS dude and he told me to include a small amount of boric acid so as to make it easier on the ole ear.
Maybe Lonestar Lee can give us his expert advice.
Is it clear? No? Well....let's go anyways.
