I recently purchased a Dive Rite RX8 and am really enjoying it. good performance and no cord/canister. The value compared to canister lights is also very attractive. DR has since come out with a new one as well, the LX20 I think.
Yes, I dove with a friends RX8 at Jug a while back. It would be an awesome video light for the go pro, but due to the lack of a hot spot, it was nearly impossible to signal with.

If you only had to choose between these two, which would you go for : Hollis LED 15 or Dive Rite RX 17?

Dive Rite, but I'd hop on ebay grab an HID with a good battery but busted light and have Bobby convert it first, or even a good bulb and just use that for a while. There's a few dive rite 10w HID's on ebay right now for under $200. Grab one of those, use it till the bulb burns out, then take it to Bobby for like $400 ish and get the LD-13 head on there.

If you liked the RX8, DRiS is giving the last of them away for like $330 until tomorrow for their daily deal

Thank you for recommending this light. I ordered the Impact Stubby with the spot head from DRIS and did my first dive with it today in Orange Grove Sink. It was just as bright, and had a tighter spot, than my buddy's 400 dollar RX8. After an hour long dive it did not seem to be any dimmer. I did order the extra battery so I can put a fresh one in if I do two dives, but I now question if I needed to spend the extra few dollars. I'm totally happy with this purchase. (and my dive buddy liked it so much he ordered one with the video head right after he played with mine)
