Indiana (and surrounding area) Cave / Tech divers?

Since Forrest was around when Indiana was being formed, I think I'd believe him.

Thanks FW and Jon about the fact there are caves in this area. About 15 years ago I had some folks tell me about a system rumored to be in this area (relatively speaking) and being more naïve back then about systems thought I would bird-dog the lead. After much chasing of dead-ends and hazy memories...gave up and chalked it up to a wish more than a reality.

I will pester some of the dry cavers to see if anything turns up.

Dry cavers won't help much finding springs. They might be able to tell you where sumps are, but not diveable springs. PM coming.

I often travel to Indiana for work (I was there last week) and I used to drive so that I could bring my dive gear and dive in Blue Springs in Waldron before it closed in 2011. Would love to hear of any new sites, particularly if they are cave diving sites!

I have given decostanza the contact information. He is going to contact someone with more knowledge of the area. Just remember that unlike Florida which has many springs on public land, Indiana doesn't. There will always be land owner issues there.

Looks like they have two new divesites with overhead! And by overhead I mean swimming pools inside a building, not real diving overhead. Not a cave site, but at least there is a local resource for checking out gear, especially when it's cold.

Good stuff, hope you guys get some good use out of it.

Hopefully this is not all that there is to it and more updates are forthcoming
geared toward technical divers. I wasn't expecting nemo33 but a bit more than
"we have a couple of pools." Several LDS in the Chicago, Indiana area have
their own pool or have access to pools (YMCA, high schools) during the winter
time where checking gear/rigging can be done. Gilboa and a couple of other
quarries are open during the winter subject to weather/icing. The 25' depth is
an interesting feature, good for practicing SMB deployment and some other
things. In my case, I prefer the shallows where trim/buoyancy related issues
are amplified during rigging changes.

25' deep pools are unique for sure.
I was also hoping at minimum, for an new open water site, let alone a new cave site,
It would be nice to have site close enough for day trip, just to get out and practice during winter.
Haigh is nice quarry we have around here, closed for winter, except maybe for some ice diving.

Problem is that Haigh is generally open one weekend in the winter for ice diving.
