Thread: Pocket Leash

  1. #1

    Default Pocket Leash

I see a number of pockets with leashes on them, and some with only d-rings. Currently I have a bungee loop in each pocket that's about 2 inches in diameter, so not a leash.

What are people's thoughts on pros/cons of leashes?

I have both. Leash is probably my favorite.

I prefer D-rings but all my current pockets came with leashes installed. With Dry gloves the leash was better, bare handed it doesn't matter.

I prefer the leash, I find I makes taking things in and out easier then the D ring.

So do you pull everything out of your pocket that's on the leash, sort through to find what you want, and then stuff it all back in?

Sometimes. If I can grab what I want easily then I just unclip it. If the thing I want is buried under a bunch of stuff then I'll flip out the leash.

Same for me. I can normally find what I am looking for no problem.

The leash works well for getting to what you want, I have one in my right pocket, very minimalist, with 2 safety spools, bottom of pocket, 1 pair of trauma shears, 3 arrows and a cookie on piece of tubing, and 1 back-up light. Left pocket contains only back- up mask, untethered for quick access. After you get what you need, un-clip it and stuff the rest back in your I pocket after your emergency has been solved. I don't worry about zipping back up the pocket since the stuff is tethered anyway.

I like the bungie because I dive a lot in cold waters where I have limited dexterity so the yard sale on leash can become handy.

On the other hand, I've had a spool hanging out onc and had it yanking me eight after the keyhole at ginnie. The bungies gave me some leeway where a more direct connection may have been less forgiving...

I have a bungee loop right now, so if I pull it flexes, but acts more like a d-ring than a leash. I guess I'll try the leash and see what I think.
