I was discussing with Bob Knight this weekend the conditions at various springs especially Little river. In a perfect world there would be funding for hydrolabs in every system but that is unlikely. So I have a low tech proposal:
install a small note on mainline (about the size of the one at the entrance to Rocky Horror) and 3-4+ cookies spaced at 25ft intervals ahead. The note simply asks divers how many cookies can they see and to please report it to a sticky thread on this forum along with date, time and strength of light. This would give people who study the caves some semi-scientific data and it would provide the cave diving community with a more standard way of reporting vis in caves. So a few questions for everyone:
1. Is there a reason this is a bad idea? Safety etc something I am not thinking of
2. Who would I contact for permission to install these in various caves?
3. Suggestions for placement: area with enough traffic to get reports and 75-100+ signed feet of passage ahead.
Thanks,
--Scott
