I must be a real cave diver. Molecular products is using a picture of me in the caves for their sofnolime promotions.

I started thinking of myself as a cave diver when I could do the dives I wanted to do confidently and in consistently good form. But there are levels - I'm a pretty good one stage, normoxic trimix, line following tourist cave diver. I don't frighten myself or my buddies or damage the cave. But I've never done any exploration, and at almost 300 cave dives, compared to many I'm a rookie. There are always greater levels of competence and skill toward which to aspire. (I almost wrote "to aspire to", but don't want to commit a spelin or grammer violation. )

It's difficult to judge if you live far away and don't get to dive caves often. 'Takes awhile for the muscle memory to get back. Around the time I start to feel like a cave diver, it's time to go home

I'm a little over 5000 dives in, which involves several thousand trimix and "proper" wreck dives, perhaps 1500+ cave dives and I don't consider myself a "real" cave diver yet, I still have an enormous amount to learn, and look forward to the journey...
